Arizona can get incredibly hot and an ice cold beer may be irresistible. However, drinking to excess has it’s consequences. People in hot, climates like Arizona can become dehydrated quickly, especially in the midday sun, when temperatures are at their peak. Having a beer or two often turns into 6 or more and then you’re drunk. Getting drunk without a transportation plan is often what lands people in jail, if they don’t cause an accident or kill someone first. You might think that because the roads are so open with so few cars, that you can drive under the influence without consequence. You are wrong; dead wrong. Facts about Arizona Alcohol and Drug Laws

The minimum drinking age in the State of Arizona is 21. Until 2010, you could purchase alcohol weekdays and Saturdays between the hours of 6AM and 2AM on Sundays between 10AM and 2AM. Since then, Sunday hours have been changed such that the hours are 6AM to 2AM 7 days/week. A licensed business may not permit alcohol to be consumed on premises after 2:30AM. It is illegal for customers to have open containers from 2:30AM - 6AM.

Underage persons may be in a bar while accompanied by a spouse, parent or legal guardian of legal drinking age, or if they are on-duty employees of that business. Regardless, they are not allowed to drink alcoholic beverages. A customer must provide a valid I.D. if asked to show it in order to be served alcohol. The use of a fake I.D. to purchase liquor is illegal and you could be charged with a Class 3 misdemeanor, and could go to jail. An intoxicated person is allowed to stay in a bar for 30 minutes from the time the state of intoxication is discovered, allowing time to arrange for transportation from the premises. It is illegal for a retail business to conduct drinking contests or provide a person with an unlimited number of alcoholic beverages during a set period of time. What to do if you are stopped for Driving Under the Influence

If you've been stopped by Police or Highway Patrol for DUI, how do you respond? First (and most importantly) be courteous. Don't attempt to bargain your way out of it. Be respectful. Secondly, you should ask for a private place to speak to your attorney. The Officer may not allow that immediately, however, if he ultimately does not honor your request, your entire case can be thrown out.
