It's important to understand the impact alcohol (and drugs) have on us in our daily lives.  Unfortunately, by the time you become a statistic, it's already too late.  In fact, by the time a statistic is even developed, it's probably too late.

Here are some interesting facts about alcohol.  In a recent study of 5th and 6th grade students, half were shown ads for beer, while the second half was not.  The students who saw the ads held the most favorable views about drinkings and vocalized that they thought they would drink more when they got old enough.  Scary isn't it?

Another staggering statistic is that there are an estimated 6.6 million children under the age of 18 who live in homes where one of the parents is an alcoholic.  Moreover, we know that children who grow up in alcoholic homes are more than 3x more likely to develop a problem with alcohol then children who grew up around parents who were not alcoholics.  Even more staggering is that 80% of high school seniors claim they have used alcohol and over 63% of them say they have been drunk.

The United States holds the record for the most cases of alcohol poisoning of any country in the world, with about 50 thousand cases each year!  At least one person dies every week from alcohol poisoning.  While it can take up to 15 years for classical cases of alcoholism to develop, those who start early can become addicted much sooner.

The key to getting alcohol (and drug) consumption under control can be done in a variety of ways.  One of the best methods is to take an alcohol awareness classes.  For those that are under 21, the taking a Minor in Possession class might be a better alternative choice.  Other options include attending AA meetings or participating in an in/out patient treatment program.

Both men and women abuse alcohol, but men lead the pack with almost 2.5 times the rate of alcoholism compared to women.  There are over 9.8 million men reported as alcoholics compared to 3.9 million women.  Not shocking, 67% of complaints at work are filed as the result of an alcohol related incident.
